3. North American Open Dogtooth Dash

Canada (British Columbia)

Organizer: The Golden Ski Mountaineering Club
Place: Golden BC
Event type: individual
Description: The Dogtooth Dash returns to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort on Saturday March 26th and Sunday March 27th as a Canadian Ski Mountaineering Championship event and the first ever North American Open, with racers from both sides of the border skinning up to take on the challenge. The race is run in partnership with the Alpine Club of Canada, the Golden Ski Mountaineering Club, and the Big Mountain Centre at Kicking Horse.
The race concept combines all elements of ski touring with athletes skiing, skinning (climbing) and hiking around a course situated in the spectacular terrain making up the three alpine bowls of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. The Dogtooth Dash race course is set entirely within the ski area boundary and will challenge athletes with 1,302m / 4,272ft of climbing / descending on the competitive course, and 692m / 2,270ft of climbing / descending on the recreational poker run course. The event is truly unique with its custom clover leaf course and mountain top start and finish, located just outside the award winning Eagle’s Eye restaurant.
In the works for this year, the events team is planning to host a Saturday Night Awards Gala at the Eagle’s Eye and introduce a second day of racing with a team relay race course that will start and finish at the Heaven’s Door Yurt Café. The format is still keeping with true Kicking Horse style and will be easy for all racers and spectators to cheer fellow ski-mo racers along.
