European Championships starting up: first fresh information

One of the most important events of the season, probably the most important for many racers, will be for sure the European Championships. The French ski resort Morzine-Avoriaz will organise this event at the end of March (24-28/03/2006). Skimountaineering.org was there and got fresh information from the General Coordinator, Mr. Bruno Robinet, and the Communication Manager, Mrs. Maud Chavanne.

The organising committee, composed by 30 members and 50 volunteers, defined already the schedule of the event, as well as the basic technical aspects of the races. The advice of top racers helped to design very dynamic and nervous itineraries that guarantee spectacular scenarios, good access for public and media, and emotion until the last descent for the racers.

As usual, the Championships will begin with a Vertical Race (24/03/2006), this time probably with a mass start. The 1050m for the senior and 650m for the youth will offer probably excellent records due to a very direct and steep ascent in Avoriaz.

The Team Race (25/03/2006), with 5 ascents all below 660m altitude difference and mainly out of the ski resort, will be very strategic and technical, keeping the incognito about the winner until the arrival in the village of Morzine itself.

For the third day the organisers decided to program the Relays Race (26/03/2006), scheduled normally as the closing event. The race will take place in the evening on the Slalom Stadium, only some meter from the village, which ensures a high presence of public.

Finally, after a rest days, the Race of the Races, the Individual Race for senior and youth (28/03/2006) will close the Championships. Three uphill around the resort of Avoriaz with an arrival on ascent (with skins) will determinate the winner of the most important race of the year, especially after the cancellation of the World Championships Individual Race last year in Cuneo.

Les Championnats d’Europe

Les Championnats d’Europe 2007 qui auront lieu à Morzine-Avoriaz du 24 au 28 mars 2007 seront certainement l’événement le plus important de la saison et l’objectif de nombreux coureurs. L’équipe de skimountaineering.org a rencontré M. Bruno Robinet, coordinateur général et Melle Maud Chavanne, responsable de communication, pour prendre des nouvelles sur l’avancement de préparatifs.

Le Comité d’organisation composé de 30 membres et 50 volontaires a déjà finalisé le programme de l’événement ainsi que des aspects techniques des courses. Les parcours dynamiques et variés dessiné avec l’aide des meilleurs coureurs français jumelés aux facilités d’accès promettent un spectacle passionnant tant pour le public que les participants.

La Vertical race ouvrira ces 3èmes Championnats d’Europe le samedi 24 mars 2007. Les organisateur ont choisi pour le moment un départ un masse sur une piste noir. Les catégories séniores partiront pour 1050 m de dénivelé, les jeunes pour 650 mètres. Le tracé raid et direct promet des nouveaux records.

Un paysage sauvage et hors pistes a été choisi pour la course des équipes (25 mars 2007). Le parcours coupé en 5 montées dont la plus longue ne dépasse pas 660 mètres de dénivelé promet une compétition technique et stratégique qui se jouera dans les derniers mètres.

Le relais sera le protagoniste de la soirée du 26 mars. Situé sur les pistes éclairées à proximité du centre de Morzine, il attirera certainement un grand nombre de spectateurs.

Après une journée de repos (le 27 mars), la course individuelle clôturera le 28 mars ces Championnats. Un parcours dynamique à proximité des pistes se finira en montée au centre de la station d’Avoriaz.

Les organisateurs ont choisi d’alterné chaque jours Avoriaz (Individuels et VR) et Morzine (Relais et équipes). Tous les participants seront hébergés à Morzine. Avoriaz n’est qu’à 16 km de distance.
